One mass hysteria at a time please!

Just like current record freezing temperatures are purportedly “masking” global warming, had this hype been heralded as “climate change” from the start, the ensuing movement would’ve been able to better “mask” it’s ulterior agenda of “redefining capitalism” through one world government as Angela Merkel, Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy recently suggested. Fortunately the financial crisis came in time to keep that scheme alive and well.
For anyone who has been following the more passionate global warming doomsday prophets, it would behoove one to notice that said journalists, politicians and celebrities tend to champion socialist and outright Marxist causes. And their logic is usually framed with every activist’s favorite phrase of urgency – “but we gotta do SOMETHING…” Read some of their recommendations and one’s bound to come across the banning of certain activities or products and the mandate to slow down our economy. Curiously enough, many politicians from that same choir are now ardent supporters of financial bailouts in order to “save the economy.” After all “we gotta do SOMETHING!”
Yet most global warming “deniers” have been unapologetic proponents for capitalism, free markets, self-responsibility and insisting we NOT restrict people’s rights. Deniers propose we retain as much freedom and control over our own lives, and dare one say, individuality, as possible. They’re well aware of cause for concern regarding environmental issues such as deforestation, the polluting of rivers and lakes, and even the litter of millions of cigarette butts flickered all over our streets and parks everyday. However, deniers understand it’s one thing to tackle issues that merit concern, and it’s a whole other matter to promulgate alarmist claims that the world is going to melt off its axis. Unless, of course…
…we hang our selfish ethnocentric American heads in shame and fully comply with the Kyoto Protocol (which would slow our economy, so make up your mind); we implement cap and trade, a system which was once encouraged by Enron; we fork over more of our salaries via gas taxes and carbon rationing schemes to bigger government which always solves the problems it so deftly creates in the first place.
But the latest buzz from the Russian government’s Vostok Station in Antarctica may usher in an all-new hysteria. Russian scientists claim we’re entering a modern day Ice Age via ice core sampling, the same method which inspired Al Gore to show computer generated polar bears struggling for their survival. Give this new information time to simmer with academics and certain Hollywood intelligentsia, and we’ll be ringing in the next hype like any other New Year. But one mass hysteria at a time please! Peak oil, water wars, and mass population will simply have to wait since the debate is over on the crisis still en vogue.
